William III de was born in 1216 in Ashton Cantelou, Warwickshire, England. William III de's father was William II de Cantelou , of Calne, Sir and his mother was Milicent de Gournay. His paternal grandparents were William I de Cantelou and Macelin Braci; his maternal grandparents were Hugh VI Seigneur de Gournay and Juliana de Dammartin. He had a brother and two sisters, named Nicholas de, Agnes de and Juliane de. He was the second youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 38 on September 25th, 1254 in Calstone Wellington, Calne, Wiltshire, England. He was buried in Studley Priory, Warwickshire, England.General Notes
Magna Charta Sureties states that William was Lord Abergavenny, but this is probably dated information. Complete Peerage XIV:87, seems to take William's Abergavenny title away from him, in correcting CP II:129. Burkes seems to agree with CP in stating that William's son George held Abergavenny for 18 years.
