His paternal grandparents were Roger de Clare Earl of Hertford/Earl of Hertford and Maud (Matilda) de Saint Hilary; his maternal grandparents were William "Mafonache" FitzRobert Earl of Gloucest and Hawise "de Beaumont" Leicester Countess of Glouchest. He had a brother and three sisters, named Gilbert De, Isabel De, Joane De and Maud (Matilda) de. He was the youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 42 on March 4th, 1228 in London, Middlesex, England.-
