Esther was born on October 2nd, 1922 in Sanders, Monroe Co., Indiana. Esther's father was Charles M. Cline and her mother was Maude Emiline Shields. Her paternal grandparents were William Cline and Mandy Crouse; her maternal grandparents were James Madison Shields and Mary Jane Heltonburg. She had a brother and two sisters, named Merle, Pauline and Zola. She was the youngest of the four children.-
