His paternal grandparents were Thomas Simms and Rebecca Petty; his maternal grandparents were John Nalle and Mary Brown. He had four brothers and six sisters, named George Wilson, Edward, James, William, Sally Jones, Martha, Mary, Nancy, Daughter and Elizabeth.-
