Thomas was born in 1802 in Leatherwood,Henry County,Virginia. Thomas' father was Rowland Salmons and his mother was Frances Carter. His paternal grandparents were John Salmons and Eleanor McCarty. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Jonathan, Roland, Carter Bailey, Weeks, Jane and Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died after 1870 in Floyd County,Kentucky.-
