Benjamin was born in 1809. Benjamin's father was Elijah Rollins and his mother was Lucretia Casto. His paternal grandparents were Elijah Rollins and Elizabeth Macgill; his maternal grandparents were William Casto and Martha "Patsy" Parsons. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, John M., Harrison, Jonathan, James W., Levi, Jabel Bowles, Rhoda, Jemima, Rebecca Martha and Earli.-
