BIOGRAPHY: His Uncle and namesake, John Calvert Thompson (younger brother of his Mother, Lucinda Thompson), a prosperous businessman, sent John Calvert McAllen to school in Princeton, New Jersey.
BIOGRAPHY: J.C. McAllen afterwards went to work for J.C. Thompson as his bookeeper in New York.
BIOGRAPHY: J.C. McAllen traveled to California in June, 1858 via Aspenwall? and Panama, arriving San Francisco on the steamer "Golden Age".
BIOGRAPHY: Purchased a dairy ranch in Stony Point, Sonoma Co, California.

BIOGRAPHY: J.A. McAllen joined the Union Army in 1862, and Emeline Eliza with infant Annie Emeline, took the steamer to New York 21 Nov, 1862.
BIOGRAPHY: J.A. Mcallen died in the spring of 1873.
