Penelope was born on November 11th, 1737. Penelope's father was Jeremiah Gardiner and her mother was Grace Lawton. Her paternal grandparents were Benoni Gardiner and Mary Sherman. She had two brothers and seven sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named James, Jeremiah , Jr., Elizabeth, Freelove, Phebe, Sarah, Dorcas, Abigail, Desire and Stillborn.
