Lewis was born in 1765 in Berks Co., PA. Lewis' father was Jacob Blessing and his mother was Elizabeth Ritschart. His maternal grandparents were Christian Ritschart and Magdalena Wolf. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Jacob, John, Abraham, Christian, Henry, Elizabeth, Barbara, Magdalena, Catharine and Christina.-
