Edward's father was Thomas Whitmel Alston and his mother was Lucy Faulcon. His paternal grandparents were Philip Alston and Winifred Whitmel; his maternal grandparents were Nicholas Faulcon and Lucy Wyatt. He had three brothers and a sister, named Alfred, Hubbard W., Nicholas Faulcon and Martha Jane.-
