Dr. Cecil E. Gilger
Dr. Cecil E. GILGER, 81, retired Rochester dentist, died Saturday at 9:15 a.m. in Memorial hospital in South Bend where he was admitted Jan. 11.
Dr. Gilger was a resident of Country Club drive at Lake Manitou and had practiced dentistry in Rochester 52 years, prior to his retirement three years ago. He was a past-president of the former Rochester Country Club and has served 25 years as chairman of the Greens Committee of the Elks golf course. He attended Manchester college and was a graduate of the Indiana University Dental School.
He was born Oct. 23, 1894 in Benton county to Grant and Estelle AMBLER GILGER. His marriage was May 4, 1922 at Winamac to Fanny Helen CONN. She died Nov. 6, 1975. He had resided in Rochester 51 years. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist church, Rocheter Chamber of Commerce, the Elks and Moose lodges, Indiana State Dental association, Woodlawn hospital staff and the Royal Arch Order of Masons at Winamac. Dr. Gilger was veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion Post.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Orville (Lois) WEISKE, Indianapolis; two granddaughters, Mrs. Ernest (Annette) MILLIKIN, Noblesville, and Miss Renee WEISKE, Idianapolis; one great-granddaughter, Miss Julia Anne MILLIKIN; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil BRINEY, Vandalia, Mich., and Mrs. Thelma BENTRIM, Moline, Ill.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home. The Rev. Paul B. STEPHENSON will officiate. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. The family has requested that memorials other than flowers be made to the charity of one's choice.
