  First English secretary of the Colony of New York.  Mayer of New
  York in 1671, and in 1683 appointed one of the judges of the
  Supreme Court.  He was a graduate of Cambridge University & a
  lawyer of the inner temple. He was appointed secretary of the
  commission to "visit the colonies and plantations known as New
  England." He was
  commissioned as a captain of the military force before leaving
  England in 1664. He was admitted to the bar at Lincoln's Inn on
  November 27, 1649. He served as the first English secretary of
  the province of New
  York from 1664-1687 & became Mayor of New York in 1672. He was
  Attorney General from 1687-1690.
