Lois was born on May 4th, 1751 in Shrewsbury, Worcester, MA.1 Lois' father was Nathaniel Bixby and her mother was Jerusha Houghton. Her paternal grandparents were Mephibosheth Bixby and Mary Emmons; her maternal grandparents were Joshua Houghton and Elizabeth Bennett. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Levi, Adonijah, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Jerusha Sarah, Keziah, Abigail and Eunice. She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.-
