Granted the Manor of Pirrie (Perry Court), near Caterbury in Kent, with lands extending to Old Romney and Medley, by King Richard II in 1389. He was Collector of Customs for the Cinque Ports (the five Kent port towns facing the French coast), sometime attorney for the king in Kent, and a trusted ally of Richard II in his struggles with John of Gaunt.
