Henryk was born on August 29th, 1951 in Wellington, New Zealand and his baptism was conducted by the priest.  Henryk's father was Ginter (Gienek) Poczwa and his mother is Urszula Poczwa (Gawronek).  His paternal grandparents were Maksymilian (?) Poczwa and Marta Poczwa (Małkowska); his maternal grandparents were Michał Gawronek and Henryka Gawronek (Skrzypczyńska). He had a brother and two sisters, named Zygmunt, Barbara (Basia) and Aleksandra (Ola).  He is the second oldest of the four children.

Henryk and Bernadette are married.  They have four daughters named Ophelia, Tamsyn, Angelique and Brenna.
