Maria Margaretha was born on January 8th, 1786.  Maria Margaretha's father was Rogier Bernhadus van Blerk and her mother was Hilletjie Giebelaar (van Blerk).  Her paternal grandparents were Nicolaas van Blerk and Catharina Maria Magetski; her maternal grandparents were Johannes Philippus Giebelaar and Anna Margaretha Hop (Giebelaar). She had four brothers and seven sisters, named Nicolaas, Johannes Philippus, Rogier Bernhadus, Marthinus, Anna Margaretha, Geesje Catharina, Catharina Johanna, Maria Elizabeth, Gesina Catharina, Elizabeth Johanna and Maria Helena.  She died at the age of 19 on October 24th, 1805.
