Gertruida Christina was born in 1840 in Cradock. Gertruida Christina's father was Petrus Jacobus van Blerk and her mother was Magdalena Zacharia Vorster. Her paternal grandparents were Jan Barend van Blerk and Maria Catharina van den Berg (van Blerk); her maternal grandparents were Barend Johannes Vorster and Johanna Christina Booysen (Vorster). She had four brothers and four sisters, named Petrus Jacobus, Barend Johannes Vorster, Hendrik Stephanus, Jan Vorster, Anna Francina Johanna, Johanna Christina, Hester Magdalena and Cecilia Magdelena. She had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Jan Barend, Francois Petrus, Maria Catharina, Susanna Cathrina and Susanna Catharina Barendina. She died at the age of 73 on April 10th, 1913 in Middelburg.
