Daphne Hutin was born on March 26th, 1916 in Ladybrand. Daphne Hutin's father was Louis Napoleon van Blerk and her mother was Mary Jane Murray Norval (van Blerk). Her paternal grandparents were Frederik Andries George van Blerk and Maria Magdalena Fourie. She had a brother and two sisters, named Frederik Louis, Hilary Madge and Sheila Marie. She was the oldest of the four children.-
