Christiaan Hendrik was born on June 4th, 1867. Christiaan Hendrik's father was Johannes Carel Francois van Blerk and his mother was Magdalene Hendina van Blerk. His paternal grandparents were Johannes Everhadus van Blerk and Catharina Cornelia Margeretha van den Berg (van Blerk); his maternal grandparents were Hendrik Everhadus van Blerk and Elizabeth Jacoba Rippel (van Blerk). He had six brothers and two sisters, named Johan Carel, Frederick Andries, Marthinus Samuel Andries, Bastiaan Pieter Everhadus, Adriaan Cornelis, Carel Johannes, Elizabeth Jacoba and Catherina Johanna.
