Philippina Magdalena's father was Jan Willem Steensma and her mother was Johanna Scheubelina van Blerk (Steensma). Her maternal grandparents were Rogier Bernhadus van Blerk and Martha Basina Dorothea van de Kaap. She had three brothers named Adriaan Rosier, Jan Willem and Rozier Bernardus.-
