Juana Rodríguez de los Angeles

  • p.215-6.  Born in Lisbon.  Parents:  Rodrigo Rodriguez or Nunez and Isabel Rodriguez.  She and her husband reconciled by Inquisition of Granada.  Children:  Dona Blanca Enriquez, Dona Clara de Silva, Dona Isabel de Silva, Dona Geronyma Esperanza and Gabriel Rodriguez Arias, all relaxed in effigy in 1649.  She was, like another woman, "the root and trunk of a multitude of Judaizantes." p. 215.  She and her progeny were of the Vaez Sevilla faction.  After being reconciled [in Granada] she bragged of not having divulged names, and thus had been tortured.  He death was mourned by "a mob of her children, grandchildren, and other relatives." p. 216.  Her children purchased a tomb [in the convent of Carmen] "in which she would be buried and that they never entombed just any Catholic, [but] only those of lineage, as was done and can be seen in the account of Antonio Rodriguez Arias, her son-in-law, who did not want to give permission for the interment of the small bodies of the fortunate souls of the two creatures." p. 216 note, p.216--"She died in the late 1620s."
