Jacob was born on March 30th, 1850 in Harmony, Queens County, Nova Scotia.  Jacob's father was Austin Welton Spinney and his mother was Elizabeth Jane Morse.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Beach Spinney and Ann G. Crocker; his maternal grandfather is Jonathan Morse and his maternal grandmother was Elizabeth (Eliza) Spinney. He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Jonathan, Austin, Caleb, Joshua, Elizabeth, Ann, Charlotte, Zilpha, Minnie, Eunice and Ida.  He was the third oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 7 on April 16th, 1857 in Harmony, Queens County, Nova Scotia.
