  • Richard was a resident of Ipswich in 1661. Richard's large family had already grown into homes of their own by the time he married Margaret. Richard, a wealthy man for his times, was a bit of a "tightwad", making a prenuptial contract that his wife should have 50 pounds and the "stuff she brought with her." His will was probated on September 28, 1675, inventorying about 4,000 pounds. Margaret took to Ipswich all but the oldest of her own children, leaving three Dows to make the Hampton family.
