Reuben Dow

Reuben was born on February 4th, 1749. Reuben's father was Samuel Dow and his mother is Marcia Heath. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Dow and Mary. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Nehimiah, Henry, Elijah, Judah, Ruth, Mary, Johannah, Sarah, Elizabeth and Johannah. He was the nineth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 74 in 1823 in South Hampton, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

General Notes
- Reuben was alway known as Reuben Smith Dow, but the middle name was assumed by himself. His will, dated January 25, 1823 and probated April 10, 1823, was signed Reuben Dow. A tailor by trade he worked almost to the day of his death. His first entry in South Hampton tax books is 1803, probably coming from Kensington, New Hampshire. He was reputed by the young people to be a wizard. Thrifty, he invested largely in land.
