Dr Jabez Dow

Jabez was born on September 5th, 1747. Jabez's father was Ezekiel Dow and his mother is Elizabeth Cram. His paternal grandparents were Jabez Dow and Esther Shaw; his maternal grandparents are Thomas Cram and Elizabeth Weare. He had a brother and three sisters, named Nathan, Lydia, Patience and Lucy. He was the youngest of the five children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named Benjamin, Abigail, Comfort and Esther. He died at the age of 61 on October 1st, 1808 in Deerfield, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

General Notes
- Jabez moved from Farmington, New Hampshire to Deerfield, New Hampshire after the war. He served four years as a private, taking part in the Battles of White Plains, Ticonderoga, Stillwater and many other minor engagements. As usual, the State rolls are incomplete. He enlisted on June 8, 1775, under Captain William Hudson Ballard and Colonel James Frye. He receipted for pay on December 13, 1775. An entry of October 6, 1775 reports him as going to Quebec, Canada. He next appears enlisting for three years under Captain Robinson and Colonel Nathan Hale in 1777. He was reported as a derserter in New York City, New York and was back soon in good order. Most of the country boys were named as deserters in New York, wanting to see the town. He also served in 1780 under Colonel George Reid's 5th Company. He was allowed $182.60 for depreciation of currency.
