Jan 's father was Elias Arijsz Blokland and his mother was Maijke Marrigje Herberts Versloot. His paternal grandparents were Arij Willemsz Blokland and Maria Marigje Eliasd de Hek; his maternal grandparents were Herbert Janse Versloot and Grietje Hendriks. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Arie , Herbert, Johannes, Johannes, Johannes, Maria , Grietje and Annigje. He was the third oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 21 in 1757.
