Herbert's father was Elias Arijsz Blokland and his mother was Maijke Marrigje Herberts Versloot. His paternal grandparents were Arij Willemsz Blokland and Maria Marigje Eliasd de Hek; his maternal grandparents were Herbert Janse Versloot and Grietje Hendriks. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Arie , Jan , Johannes, Johannes, Johannes, Maria , Grietje and Annigje. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 66 on January 26th, 1801 in Hardingveld Nederland.
