John was born in 1740 in South Brent, Somerset, England.  John's father was Robert CHAMPION and his mother was Ann CHAMPION.  His paternal grandparents were Robert CHAMPION and Ann LYDE.  He had a brother and five sisters, named Robert, Elizabeth, Ann, Ann, Grace and Sarah.  He was the fifth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 80 on September 29th, 1820 in Rooksbridge.
