Alice was born in 1874 in Gisleham, Suffolk, England.  Alice's father was Aaron CALVER and her mother was Ellen GAUDBY .  Her paternal grandparents were Robert CALVER and Anna Maria.  She had seven brothers and a sister, named Frederick, Arthur, Robert, George, Walter, Ernest , William and Harriet.  She was the oldest of the nine children.
