Martin was born on September 11th, 1747 in Hanovertown, St Paul's Parish, Hanover, Virginia.  Martin's father was Nicholas II GENTRY and his mother was Jane BENAJAH.  His paternal grandfather was Nicholas GENTRY and his paternal grandmother is Mrs. Nicholas Gentry I. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Robert, Benajah, Nathan, Nathan, Elizabeth "Betsey", Ann, Jane, GENTRY and GENTRY.  He died at the age of 79 on January 23rd, 1827 in Richmond, Madison, Kentucky.  His burial was in , Madison, Ky.
