Mark was born about 1796 in Kirkland, Garstang, Lancashire, Eng. Chr. Kirkland, Garstang, Lancashire.  Mark's father was Thomas BARTON and his mother was Jennie JENKINS.  His paternal grandparents are Henry BARTON and Elizabeth Of Billsboro. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas Jr., John, William, Mark, Mary and Margaret.  His burial was on January 18th, 1796.
