Minna was born in July 1888.  Minna's father was Rein Volmer and her mother was Mari Volmer (Zeiger).  Her paternal grandparents were Juhan Volmer and Eva Volmer (Järv). She had five brothers and five sisters, named Johannes, August, Adolf, Oskar, Jaan, Luise, Anna, Helene, Melanie and Ida.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
