Rein was born in June 1800.  Rein's father was Kristjan Piho and his mother was Mari Piho.  His paternal grandparents were Andres and Ann; his maternal grandparents were Hans and Mai. He had a sister named Tiiu.  He was the older of the two children.  He died at the age of 57 in December 1857.
