Ado was born in 1770. Ado's father was Evert and his mother was Epp. His paternal grandparents were Mats and Mai; his maternal grandparents were Peep and Epp. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Tõnn, Mihkel, Mai and Mari. He was the fourth oldest of the five children.
