IJsbrand was born on August 22nd, 1706 in Rijnsburg, Zuid-Holland.  IJsbrand's father was Jan Jacobs Brussee and his mother was Hester IJsbrandr. de Vos.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Samuelz Brussee and Lijsbeth Pietersd Roseeuw; his maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Pieter , Jacob Jansz, Samuël, Daniël Janz, Ermtie, Elisabeth Jansz, Aagje and Marijtje.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died in Rijnsburg, Zuid-Holland.
