Ermtie was born on November 13th, 1709 in Rijnsburg, Zuid-Holland.  Ermtie's father was Jan Jacobs Brussee and her mother was Hester IJsbrandr. de Vos.  Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Samuelz Brussee and Lijsbeth Pietersd Roseeuw; her maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Pieter , IJsbrand, Jacob Jansz, Samuël, Daniël Janz, Elisabeth Jansz, Aagje and Marijtje.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
