Dezső was born on June 3rd, 1852 in Nagyváty Baranya vm.¹

Dezső's father was Károly Kossa and his mother was Terézia Ács.  His paternal grandparents were Dániel Kossa and Mária Fazekas. He had two brothers and a sister, named Kálmán, Károly and Lenke.  He was the second oldest of the four children.
