Gyula's father was János Asbóth and his mother was Terézia Farkas.  His paternal grandparents were János Asbóth and Zsuzsanna Drobni. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Antal, János, Pál, Károly, Terézia and Zsófia. He had three half-sisters named Erzsébet, Mária and Borbála.
