Pál's father was György Körtvélyesi and his mother was Anna Oláh.  His paternal grandparents were Imre Körtvélyesi and Teréz Tóbiás. He had six brothers and two sisters, named József, Julianna, István, Kálmán, Lajos, István, Erzsébet and Anna.  He was the oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named Gábor.  He died at 3 months old on April 9th, 1880.
