Kálmán's father was Pál Körtvélyesi and his mother was Anna Restás?.  His paternal grandparents were Albert Körtve and Terézia Vitko. He had five brothers and a sister, named József, Pál, Bertalan, Pál, Béla and Margit.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
