Ádám's father was János Körtvélyesi and his mother was Erzsébet Mátyás.  His paternal grandparents were Mihály Körtvélyesi and Mária Barbély. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Sándor, Ferenc, János, Anna, Katalin, Rozália and Terézia.  He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named István, Mihály, Mátyás, Éva, Teréz and Margit.  He died on October 14th, 1847.
