John and Eliza were married in a religious ceremony on March 1st, 1851 in R.C. School House, Belfast (Port Fairy) by Reverend Thomas Slattery and witnessed by Stephen Madden, Charles Beats, Elizabeth Beats.1

Port Fairy in Victoria was called Belfast for about 10 years because most of the population was Irish. The grand Cathedral wasn't built until a year or so later, hence the wedding in the school house.
