Mathew was born on December 25th, 1846.  Mathew's father was Andrew George Siman and his mother was Dorothea Roshan.  His paternal grandparents were George Siman and Helena Terek; his maternal grandparents are Andrew Roshan and Anna Kubanda. He had three brothers and a sister, named Karl, Andrew, Joseph and Christina.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
