    HANTSPORT MAN IS BURIED ALIVE
    Some Hours Before Tragedy Discovered
    Victim Frederick Fields Leaves a Wife &
    Eight Children
    HANTSPORT --- June 11 --
    A tragedy which has shocked the entire populace of Hantsport occurred here  this afternoon when Frederick Fields, a laborer, residing in this town, was buried alive beneath several feet of earth. The unfortunate man had been engaged in digging a sewer from the bungalow of H. E. Wilson to the Avon River, when the side of the ditch gave way, burying him completely.
    The accident happened near the lower end of the drain where it was about 15 feet deep.  It is presumed that the cave in occurred about two o'clock, but as Mr. Fields was the only one employed at the work, the accident was not discovered until five o'clock. The body was recovered between six and seven o'clock.
    Mr. Fields was a married man and is survived by his wife, one son and seven daughters. He had been a resident of Hantsport for the last twenty years coming here from Avonport.

    The funeral of the late Fred Fields, the victim of Wednesday's tragedy, took place from his late home on Avon Street, at three o'clock yesterday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. Dr. A. B. Dickie, minister of the  Presbyterian Church.
    Much sympathy is felt for the family of whom there are left to mourn, besides his wife, one son: Patrick, at home, and six  daughters: Laura in the West, Annie, Mrs. Fred Sweet, Mary, Mrs. Colby, Florence, Mrs. Alex Scott of this place, & the Misses Frances & Amanda of Kentville.  Internment in Riverbank Cemetery.
