Peter was born in 1845.  Peter's father was Donald Polson and his mother was Barbara  MacLeod.  His paternal grandparents were Alexander  Polson and Catherine  Matheson; his maternal grandparents were George MacLeod and Janet Bannerman. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Alexander, George, William, Isobel, Janet and Barbara.  He was the fifth oldest of the eight children.
