John was born on April 25th, 1810.  John's father was Alexander  Polson and his mother was Catherine  Matheson.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Matheson and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and a sister, named Hugh, William, Donald and Ann.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
