Hugh was born on March 29th, 1806.  Hugh's father was Alexander  Polson and his mother was Catherine  Matheson.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Matheson and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, William, Donald and Ann.  He was the oldest of the five children.
