Alexander was born on August 29th, 1863.  Alexander's father was Alexander MacLeod and his mother was Ellen Davidson.  His paternal grandparents were George MacLeod and Janet Bannerman. He had four brothers and a sister, named William, John, George, Donald and Isabella.  He was the youngest of the six children.
