May Thornton

May was born in 1895 in Barnoldswick, Yorkshire, England.¹ May's father was Dick Thornton and her mother was Elizabeth Whittaker. Her paternal grandparents were James Thornton and Ellen Hartley. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Norman, Dick, Rhoda, Maud, Clara and Jane E. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
