Jerome was born in 1813 in Denton, Otley, Yorkshire, England.1   Jerome's father was William Pettyt and his mother was Elizabeth Gill.  His paternal grandfather is William Bake and his paternal grandmother was Elizabeth Hudson.  He had three brothers and six sisters, named William, James, William, Anne (Nancy), Elizabeth, Harriet, Jane (Ellen), Elizabeth and Hannah.  He was the nineth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 54 on November 4th, 1867 in Otley, Yorkshire, England.
